Description
This is the story of eight Irishmen and their 15 metre aluminium boat, Northabout, which they built to sail the Northwest Passage, which meanders north of Canada and Alaska through ice-choked channels. Northabout then spent another year cruising the Alaskan and British Colombian costs, enjoying the magnificent scenery and photographing the wildlife. They eventually completed the polar circumnavigation by taking the Russian Northeast Passage home and becoming the first yacht to achieve this sailing in a westward direction. This new edition includes another challenge: the transit of Stalin’s infamous White Sea Canal, which was built by Gulag labour and cost an enormous number of human lives.
