Family history research projects

Tracing your Mayo Ancestry

The North Mayo Heritage Centre offers trusted research for people seeking proof,
documentation, and clarity on their Irish family history. Many people trust us to solve
ancestry questions that have puzzled their families for generations. If you want more than
just a family tree — if you want verified records, documented lineage, and a clear
understanding of what is provable — you are in the right place.

Book of records

Many clients come to us later in life, often after retirement,
or when there is finally time to look properly at family history.
We can help to preserve family knowledge for future generations, leaving a lasting, accurate record behind. There are often papers, notes, or unanswered questions gathered over many years.
We work with clients who want to put order on what is known, clarify what can be proven, and understand what may not be recoverable. We resolve complex ancestral research cases that online tools get wrong.

Research takes time. We work with a limited number of clients at any one time in order to give each project proper attention. Most projects develop over months rather than
weeks, and research is frequently undertaken in stages.
Due to demand for our service, we cannot offer a same day or drop-in research service.

Please give as much detail as you can. This helps us to understand how best we can help. If your enquiry is detailed or complex, email is usually the best way to get started. Contact us at northmayo@gmail.com
Brief initial conversations are welcome. Detailed research discussions are best followed up
using email or post.

Fee Structure

Every client’s needs are different, and the research fee is determined based on a client’s
needs. Even simple research requests can take time to accurately resolve. Here is a general
guideline to our services:

Research or Record Assessment: (from €75 upwards)
Ideal if you are just beginning your family history journey, or if you have existing research.
For clients with existing research, we can review your research, and identify errors and
limitations in the records. We will also suggest realistic next steps.

Townlands and Grave identification: (from €150-250)
Our local knowledge can help identify where your ancestors originated, and provide you with
documented, illustrated research to help you understand the evidence. This information can also be very helpful if you plan to visit these locations at a future date.

Lineage Research/Family History Report Production (from €450 upwards)
Fully sourced, archival-quality report for the client who wants the benefit of our experience
and local knowledge to verify their lineage. This level of research provides documented,
written conclusions based on our archival skills, and our ability to evaluate sources. Verifying
a lineage includes time spent on ruling things out. This work requires patience, and is often
phased work.

Commissioned Research Time
