Unrecycled Monster Tour

By not recycling our rubbish responsibly we’re creating a monster!

How The Unrecycled Monster Was Spawned

Alex was irritated by the amount of litter he saw along the roadside where he

walks and decided to do something about it. He began by bagging as many cans

as he could and recycling them.

One day he met Gary, who was impressed, and joined him on the walks to help

him collect the rubbish. When Gary learned that Alex also makes collages, he

suggested they make one using the cans.

As well as walking and collages Alex likes Monster, which turned out to be

handy. They discovered that those cans worked best visually and all the

different flavours – and colours – are included. They took the cans they

gathered and hung them from the branches of a dying Christmas tree. All it took

was an awl and a roll of string.

Then they decided to exhibit it at various locations around the county. The first

stop on the tour was Ballyhaunis Community Garden but it’s now available for

viewing in the North Mayo Heritage Centre, Enniscoe, until the end of July.
